Notary Service

The library offers free notary services to the public during open hours. Both residents and non-residents are welcome to use this service.  Notary services provided by the library are conducted by the Library Director, a licensed notary public, but the Library and its staff are not liable for the content or legality of the documents being notarized. It is the responsibility of the document owner to ensure compliance with legal requirements. The Library does not provide electronic notary services.

Documents must be signed in the presence of the notary. Have your documents completely filled out except for the signature prior to seeing the notary. Some documents may require witnesses in addition to the notarization. Library staff can not act as a witness.

To utilize the notary services, individuals must:

  • Present a valid, government-issued photo ID.
  • Provide complete and legitimate documents that include a notarial certificate and adhere to the regulations outlined in Iowa State Code Chapter 9B.

The library reserves the right to refuse notarization in cases where:

  • Documents are incomplete or contain fraudulent information.
  • Documents are handwritten or without the required notarial certification.
  • Documents that are considered vital records.
  • Documents fail to comply with Iowa State Code Chapter 9B.

Please call with questions or to confirm the Director's availability to serve as a notary.
